About Me

Backyard Summer Fun

I grew up in a beautiful farmhouse located on a picturesque dirt road. The home was situated on nearly seventy-five acres of rich farmland. Our backyard was huge. During the summer months, my parents, my sister, my friends, and me often played games in the backyard. I particularly enjoyed playing volleyball and badminton in our spacious backyard. On one particular occasion, one of my friends became so competitive that he got tangled in the volleyball net while attempting to prevent the ball from hitting the ground. I have many fond memories of playing sports at my childhood home. On this blog, you will discover the best types of sports equipment to purchase for your backyard.

College Football Picks: Championship Strategies

by Pat Berry

Even though the college football season is over four months away, speculation about the 2023 championship contenders is already simmering.

Here are some college football pick strategies to consider when looking for 2023 championship values.

Watch for Movement

Making smart college football picks requires diligence and vigilance. With the advent of the Transfer Portal and the importance of the spring ball, you can often figure out championship contenders long before the season starts in August.

  • Spring Ball Stars: many college football programs wait to finalize their rosters, make decisions about redshirts, and other important decision until after spring football concludes in May. One of the smartest decisions you can make when assessing college football picks is watching for spring ball stars to emerge at the preeminent football programs. If you notice that a program has many freshmen poised to assume starting jobs in the fall, chances are, that team might be in rebuilding mode. Making college football picks against these teams can represent serious value because they aren't likely to have the experience or talent to make a championship run in the fall.
  • Transfer Portal: with the addition of the Transfer Portal, players can move from program to program in ways they couldn't before. When you're looking for college football picks, look for programs that are attracting top-tier transfers. Conversely, if programs seem to be hemorrhaging 4- and 5-stars recruits, the program might be headed in the wrong direction. Watching for Transfer Portal movement can be a major indicator immediately following the conclusion of spring ball games.

Schedule Speculation

College football games tend to swing on momentum. Before you make college football picks, it's always important to consider strength of schedule and home/away splits.

  • Strength of Schedule: college football rankings can be mercurial at the beginning of the season. These ranks, although often reactionary, can trigger major betting action. If, for instance, a team rises in the ranks, but has a relatively weak strength of schedule, the odds of that team making it into the college football playoffs are low. If a good team starts the year with a loss to a strong team, but ends the year with relatively weak opponents, their odds for making the college football championships might be much higher.
  • Home/Road: home teams have much better odds of upsetting better teams. Conversely, good teams can sometimes stumble to inferior squads when forced to play in a hostile road environment. If you notice that your favorite college football picks have many tough road games, you might want to reassess your strategy.
